Corporate Tax Associate

2-5 Years' PQE | Surrey | Hybrid working

We’re recruiting a Corporate Tax Associate on behalf of a highly regarded law firm, offering a varied mix of transactional and advisory work for UK and international businesses.

This opportunity would suit a solicitor who enjoys getting into the detail of a transaction, understanding a client’s commercial objectives and turning complex tax issues into clear, practical advice.

The Opportunity
You’ll join an established corporate tax team whose work extends from business acquisitions and restructurings to venture capital investment and employee share ownership.

Working alongside colleagues across the firm and clients’ external advisers, you’ll help businesses navigate the tax considerations behind significant commercial decisions. The role combines supporting transactions with standalone advice, giving you scope to develop your experience across several specialist areas.

The Work
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Advising on the tax aspects of acquisitions, disposals and corporate reorganisations.
  • Supporting tax structuring advice and applications for tax clearances.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating tax deeds, warranties and related transaction documents.
  • Assisting businesses with tax-efficient investment, including SEIS/EIS applications and investor certificates.
  • Preparing documentation for share incentive arrangements for employees, directors and advisers.
  • Supporting matters involving VAT, stamp duties, international tax and tax disputes.
  • Reviewing documents, identifying key issues and communicating findings clearly.
  • Managing the day-to-day progress of matters and maintaining regular contact with clients.
  • Contributing to business development and the team’s wider client relationships.

About You
You’ll be a solicitor with 2–5 years’ post-qualification experience and a strong interest in developing your career in corporate tax.

You should bring sound technical judgement, careful attention to detail and the ability to explain complex points in a way that helps clients make decisions.

Experience in corporate or transactional tax would be particularly relevant. Exposure to venture capital investment, SEIS/EIS or share incentive schemes would also be valuable.

Alongside your legal skills, you’ll be comfortable managing competing deadlines, working collaboratively and taking responsibility for your contribution to matters. A commercial outlook and confidence in dealing directly with clients will be important.

Why Consider the Role?
  • A broad workload combining transactional support and standalone tax advice.
  • Exposure to UK and international business clients.
  • Specialist work involving venture capital and share incentives.
  • Collaboration with lawyers across different practice areas.
  • The opportunity to build lasting client relationships.
  • Hybrid working, with up to 50% of your time working from home or another UK location.
Other flexible working arrangements can also be discussed during recruitment.
