The Opportunity:We are working with a highly regarded specialist legal aid practice that is seeking an experienced Community Care Solicitor to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor who is passionate about access to justice and making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable individuals. You will join a supportive and collaborative team of specialists who are committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for their clients while maintaining exceptional standards of client care.
The Role:The successful candidate will manage a varied claimant-focused caseload, advising and representing vulnerable adults, children, disabled individuals, and their families in a range of community care matters.
Typical matters will include:
- Challenging unlawful decisions made by Children's and Adult Social Services
- Challenging assessments, care plans, and support packages
- Ensuring local authorities comply with their statutory duties
- Safeguarding matters involving vulnerable individuals
- Identifying and progressing Judicial Review claims
- Advising on and progressing Court of Protection matters where appropriate
- Working closely with colleagues across Housing and Public Law teams
This role would suit a solicitor who can work independently, manage their own caseload, and hit the ground running, whilst also enjoying the support of an experienced and collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing a full caseload of Community Care and Public Law matters
- Providing clear, practical legal advice to clients
- Conducting legal research and case analysis
- Preparing correspondence, applications, witness statements, and court documents
- Undertaking advocacy where appropriate
- Maintaining excellent standards of client care
- Ensuring Legal Aid Agency requirements are met
- Accurate time recording, billing, and file management
- Keeping up to date with developments in Community Care and Public Law
- Supervising junior team members where appropriate
About You:The firm is keen to hear from solicitors who have:
- Experience managing Community Care and/or Court of Protection matters
- A strong understanding of Public Law and Judicial Review
- Experience working with vulnerable client groups
- Knowledge of Legal Aid funding and CCMS
- Excellent communication and client care skills
- Strong organisational and case management abilities
- The ability to work effectively to deadlines and targets
- A passion for access to justice and protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals
- A current practising certificate
